previous 4/10 next 6/10  Ultramarin 3 - 1 Spartak (389950445)

Due to an all-day shower, 37057 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Estadio Dos Dragões. Jan Matuszny was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gyárfás Szilvási and Manuel López. Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this Sal derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents. Ultramarin had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Gamperl - Baev, Steverlynck, Ramos de Oliveira - Pfeiffer, Larsson, Cerrelli, Eussen, Lajes - Fürstenried, Costa.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Spartak. The following players took the field: Selimović - Shushkanov, Cisneros, Klimowitz - De los Reyes, Coelho Pereira, Campos, Izidio Neto, Alexandre - Mota Bastos, Alves.

Some things can only be learned through experience, and G. Klimowitz should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Ultramarin a goal with 2 minutes of the match played. Spartak's B. Alves could have put the guests one up after 9 minutes after chasing a through ball from the right, but J. Gamperl was as fast as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose. After a fine move down the middle L. Cerrelli nearly gave the home side a goal after 19 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. After 20 minutes, H. Cisneros sent the corner kick right to I. Shushkanov who headed it sharply past the keeper. 0 - 1! D. Alexandre did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. The crowd roared in delight as M. Costa finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Ultramarin 23 minutes into the match. 1 - 1. The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 33 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from O. Steverlynck, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. Halftime score was 2 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Ultramarin, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

The boggy pitch disrupted the game, especially for technical players like G. Izidio Neto. Cheers filled the stadium as M. Eussen broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 1 to Ultramarin. A great save by keeper B. Selimović after 67 minutes kept the visitors in the game after M. Costa struck from the left with a real cannonball. Ultramarin claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.

Ultramarin's best player was L. Cerrelli. On the other hand, M. Costa's play was disheartening. Most important Spartak player was B. Alves. B. Selimović turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 3 - 1.
