Atlante 1 - 1 Atlas (389951683)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 30202 had shown up at Estadio Azulgrana for the match. Casper Oeschger was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Bonifacas Gvezdauskas and Enrico Mauro Alume. Atlante decided to use a 5-4-1 set up. The following players had been chosen: Capixaba - Beek, González de Mata, Jiménez, Macés, Alonso - Esteban, Sahuquillo, Gazzana, Monreal - Addicks.

Atlas had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. The following players took the field: Anolli - Thomassen, Francolini, Soergel, Mering - Mader, Dyb, Fagert, Ballón, Bizior - Dassen.

Atlante clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. G. Francolini had a good try after 5 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide. Good work by the Atlante defensive line after 6 minutes produced a good counterattack chance, which cut elegantly down the middle of the pitch and found D. Monreal alone in front of the goal, but his shot whistled just wide. Atlante earned themselves a free kick after a counterattack wasn't dealt with adequately by their opponents. H. Addicks powered the shot in for 1 - 0. An equalising goal seemed certain after 30 minutes when E. Dassen attacked down the left wing, but Z. Capixaba just managed to make a save to keep the ball out of the net. Atlante had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 31 minutes, but N. Gazzana's shot from the left sailed high over the bar. 34 minutes into the game, R. Mader had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came K. Ibsen. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Atlas, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.

E. Dassen's lightning pace was too much for A. González de Mata who could only look on as the Atlas player blasted one home. 1 - 1. After 61 minutes, the Atlante coach had a quick word about the tactical set-up and decided to try another approach. After 85 minutes, Atlas's H. Mering fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! Atlas had to make a substitution after 86 minutes. H. Mering limped off the field and was replaced by D. Moreno. Atlas had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.

Atlante's best player was Z. Capixaba. D. Monreal turned in a dismal performance, however. T. Ballón performed admirably for Atlas. D. Moreno on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 1.
