24-06-2012 17.30
Clouds darkened the skies at
Deportivo Vias Arena as 7165 spectators turned up for the match.
Sandro Antonietta was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Paul B. Nordbratt and
Arnaud Irle.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Deportivo.
Starters: Peña - Cárdenas, Lapetra, Casablanca, Gravalosa - Farfán, Cohuo, Montalvo, Martínez - Calderón, Cardozo.
JUANINES had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
Lineup: Baesi - Szafarczyk, Kalācis, Portugal - Espadañero, Stangeland, Schönleiter, Juárez Yepes - Dunn, De Lira, Bryda.
JUANINES seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
S. Lapetra of Deportivo seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 1 - 0 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
M. Cárdenas.
The visitors'
A. Kalācis was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 1 - 1 after 15 minutes.
J. Peña looked great 20 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
H. Szafarczyk.
The terraces were silenced after 27 minutes when JUANINES's
R. Schönleiter put the guests ahead 1 - 2, following an attack on the right.
After 29 minutes, JUANINES's
J. Portugal burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 3.
By now, the players in JUANINES felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Halftime score was 1 - 3.
JUANINES claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 71 percent.
One of many good crosses from
S. Espadañero on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by
P. Dunn, who scored for JUANINES. 1 - 4
After 60 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
G. De Lira who increased JUANINES's lead to 1 - 5.
It was obvious that team JUANINES had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
The visitors'
K. Bryda took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 65 minutes into the match. 1 - 6 for JUANINES.
With 67 minutes played,
M. Cárdenas of Deportivo fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
After 72 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
R. Schönleiter a chance to increase the lead for JUANINES, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 7.
With 73 minutes played, JUANINES put themselves up 1 - 8 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was
P. Dunn.
75 minutes into the game, JUANINES worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch.
JUANINES enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 74 percent of possession.
J. Gravalosa performed admirably for Deportivo.
J. Peña turned in a dismal performance, however.
JUANINES's best player was
G. De Lira.
However,
R. Juárez Yepes made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 1 - 8.
