previous 2/10 next 4/10  Bakusfoot 1 - 1 Assoua (390049405)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 33116 had shown up at Bakus stadium for the match. Pedro Jiménez was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Enzo Facciolo and Gerben Geelen. The derby had been the talk of Lagunes all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. Bakusfoot started off with a 4-5-1 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Albó - Surace, Balea, Cesqui, Salcedo - Perazzo, Guiriéoulou, Yeboah, Ivan, Tello - Sánchez.

Assoua tactics involved an interesting 4-3-3 combination. Starters: Jansche - Orville, Izquierdo, Sæther, Oláh - Darnault, Goncalves, Faust - Van Waeyenberghe, Leroy, Coenen.

After 16 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Bakusfoot was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. Bakusfoot's J. Ivan left the field after 25 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was G. Tollenaers. Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Bakusfoot's A. Tello somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for J. Sánchez, who struck for 1 - 0. 33 minutes into the match Bakusfoot's N. Cesqui viciously shoved another player from behind while going for a loose ball and was sent off the pitch with a red card. Unfortunately for Assoua, N. Goncalves was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. N. Lagny replaced him. J. Sánchez tried using a burst of speed to get past his defender after 36 minutes, but it takes more than that to get past fast A. Izquierdo. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Bakusfoot claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.

J. Sánchez should probably have put his team up another goal after 52 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by G. Jansche kept the visitors in the game. 61 minutes into the game Assoua's J. Van Waeyenberghe found a gap in the home side's central defence and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 1 - 1. After 76 minutes, Bakusfoot's J. Sánchez fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! Bakusfoot had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

Bakusfoot's best player was I. Yeboah. On the other hand, N. Albó's play was disheartening. Assoua's top performer was clearly J. Van Waeyenberghe. However, M. Leroy made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 1 - 1.
