58519 spectators had come to
London Isotopes Arena this cloudy day.
Yordi van der Doel was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Johan Magnusson and
Sylvester Zaal.
Isotopes started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
They fielded: Warrick - Gosset, Cereto, Cafranga - Pääkkölä, Cartwright, Gillis, MacAirt, Çalkın - Herrera, Bent.
slice tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination.
Lineup: Novak - Byman, Redlingshofer, Callebaut, Orneli, Sharples - Franson, Lavaud, Fitzgerald, Muntané - Grimaux.
slice clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
A. Cartwright sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from
J. Gosset after 25 minutes of play, making the score 1 - 0.
slice played a good counterattacking move down the left 33 minutes into the match, with
P. Lavaud finishing well for 1 - 1.
Isotopes created a good opportunity to score 37 minutes into the match when
J. Herrera's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball.
With the clock showing 38 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of slice resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
V. Franson in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high.
Given a free kick close to the byline, Isotopes tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
J. Herrera slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 2 - 1, 42 minutes into the game.
slice will have to do without
P. Lavaud for a time, due to a bad foot injury at the 43 minute mark. He was substituted by
N. De Matteis.
After 44 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
H. Bent might have resulted in another goal for Isotopes. However,
D. Novak made a spectacular save.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1.
Isotopes enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 69 percent of possession.
J. Gosset struck a 30 metre free kick home 52 minutes into the match. 3 - 1 for the home team.
With 58 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock, slice showed some good skill and were able to reduce the score to 3 - 2 when
S. Fitzgerald got past the home side's central defenders right in front of the goal.
E. Gillis increased the lead for Isotopes to 4 - 2, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Isotopes lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
J. Herrera left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 77 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
O. Lineker was the replacement.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Isotopes to 5 - 2 as
O. Lineker finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
After 84 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Isotopes was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options.
Possession in this half belonged to Isotopes, who controlled the ball 68 percent of the time.
The most dominating Isotopes player was without a doubt
E. Gillis.
C. Warrick on the other hand, had a terrible day.
G. Grimaux performed admirably for slice.
On the other hand,
M. Redlingshofer's play was disheartening.
The match ends 5 - 2.
