previous 6/10 next 8/10  Burlington 4 - 1 Stroumpffe (390050860)

Clouds darkened the skies at The City Ground as 54889 spectators turned up for the match. August Baldauf was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Milan Bozic and Peter ''Addarn'' Holner. Burlington decided to use a 3-4-3 set up. They fielded: Respaldiza - Andronache, Lund, Lucey - Wood, Farrar, Kilgallon, Meek - Beck, Minn, da Rocha.

Stroumpffe started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Oakland - Otronen, Kalisiak, Luderer, Condurache - Benčić, Baldoni, MacAusland, Pinkney - Ratassepp, Parulec.

Stroumpffe clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Many thought R. Kilgallon ought to have been awarded a penalty 38 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around V. Oakland after a determined run through the middle. The visiting A. Ratassepp was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 39 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Burlington enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 64 percent of possession.

53 minutes in, and Burlington were able to score the equalising goal to make it 1 - 1 when R. Beck picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper. Stroumpffe were pushed back, and had many dangerous counterattacks. An impressive one came 68 minutes into the match, but A. Pinkney narrowly missed the free kick attempt that was awarded as a result of a foul. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, R. Beck scored for Burlington putting them ahead 2 - 1, after 78 minutes. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, S. da Rocha got himself booked. The manager of Burlington was not happy. After 80 minutes, T. Meek put Burlington ahead 3 - 1 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Burlington to 4 - 1 as R. Beck finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle. By then R. Beck had scored three goals - a hat trick! A. Wood of Burlington received a yellow card after 86 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Possession in this half belonged to Burlington, who controlled the ball 67 percent of the time.

T. Meek performed admirably for Burlington. S. da Rocha turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Stroumpffe player was A. Ratassepp. K. Luderer on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 4 - 1.
