Dark skies made the crowd of 51094 at
Perkins Stadium a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Kunibald Großmayer was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Lars van Buuren and
Stefan Milanov.
Poshboys had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation.
The following players took the field: Spompato - Terryn, Grado, Sassoli, Katenstück - Impey, Vagasky, Melo, Lane, Łukawski - Hutmann.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Kingston.
They fielded: Wright - Krogh, Churchill, Mäki - Forster, Yakalı, Byford, Gea, Connery - Zumiel, Campos.
Poshboys clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 27 minutes into the match, and
G. Connery wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors.
No matter how hard he tried,
J. Hutmann just couldn't get his shot past the visitors' right side defence after 30 minutes.
G. Yakalı received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 39 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Kingston fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
41 minutes into the game,
T. Terryn had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
B. Ronayne.
It was 0 - 2 at the break.
Kingston claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 70 percent.
A drive down the left side allowed
M. Byford to get in close and score another goal for Kingston after 54 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 3.
The bench was restless, and with 65 minutes passed Poshboys's coach gave
T. Scheichl the opportunity the player had been hoping for.
J. Hutmann reluctantly left the field.
With 65 minutes played,
C. Sassoli of Poshboys fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
G. Connery of Kingston took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 67 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 4.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Kingston lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
F. Zumiel could have put his team up another goal 81 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
After 89 minutes, Poshboys switched
S. Spompato with
H. Fairley, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch.
Kingston had most of the ball, with 74 percent of possession.
Poshboys's best player was
M. Łukawski.
On the other hand,
H. Fairley's play was disheartening.
F. Zumiel performed admirably for Kingston.
W. Forster was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 0 - 4.
