previous 3/4 next 1/4  Dogz 2 - 1 Headington (390051612)

Clouds darkened the skies at The Dog House as 62021 spectators turned up for the match. Eduard Františák was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Volker Kern-Pongratz and Javier Pacheco. Dogz started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Armitage - Chirnside, 隽超 (Junchao) , Stradling - Horsfall, Dyhouse, Bruneau, Andrews, Pentilä - Shanahan, Caffrey.

Headington decided to use a 4-5-1 set up. The following players took the field: Cenarruza - Boyadzhiev, Moneghetti, Connell, Zehnich - Batty, Pearce, Conner, Thorpe, Sims - Mészáros.

It was obvious that Headington were using their pressing skill as their primary tactic. Some great play up the middle by Dogz led to a chance for 王. 隽超 (Junchao) to score after 26 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. Slack defending gave Dogz a chance to take the lead with 30 minutes played, but R. Caffrey's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition. Headington pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. Dogz's R. Caffrey got himself booked for a foul. Dogz took the lead 38 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as E. Shanahan elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Dogz, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.

Headington's N. Connell was shown a yellow card after 47 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Dogz's R. Caffrey increased the lead to 2 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 53 minutes. Given a free kick close to the byline, Headington tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let F. Conner slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 2 - 1, 76 minutes into the game. The pressing tactics used by Headington were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Dogz had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.

Dogz's best player was E. Shanahan. J. Pentilä on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important Headington player was F. Conner. However, M. Batty made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 2 - 1.
