It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 53666 that came out to
Rödelheimer Sportplatz.
Timo Neubert was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Bartosz Bubel and
Ivica Černetič.
Rödelheim had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
They fielded: 泽华 (Zehua) - Maccarone, Kofoed - Šprteľ, LiVolti, Torbjärnsson, Facchini, Hopkins - Viguie, Ulloa, Zaiem.
Achilles decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
The following players took the field: Bowman - Gameson, Adshead, Bonds, Cohen - Irving, Cubby, Keegan, Ashton, Das - Anderson.
Rödelheim saw most attack opportunities on the wings.
Achilles immediately set off using their skill at pressing their opponents.
At 3 minutes played,
F. Viguie came in from the right with the intention of giving Rödelheim the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar.
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
W. Zaiem, but the Rödelheim player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0!
15 minutes into the game, Achilles seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
passable level of organisation.
With 17 minutes played, Rödelheim's
F. Viguie almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
Rödelheim solidified their lead at the 33 minute mark, as
W. Zaiem dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0.
W. Zaiem could have put Rödelheim up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 34 minutes.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Rödelheim, with 61 percent of the ball.
Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Achilles was able to get his message across, and raised Achilles's organisation to
solid.
The heat made it a terrible day for
F. Torbjärnsson, who seemed unable to keep up with the other players.
Rödelheim's
F. Viguie swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball.
Coming from the right,
F. Viguie almost managed to score another goal for Rödelheim, but his header was tipped over the bar by the visitors' keeper.
B. Keegan's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence.
67 minutes into the game,
S. Cohen had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
S. Lynn.
The fierce heat made it important to save breath, and after a few swift runs
T. Gameson found it hard to get back into position.
Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Achilles's
B. Keegan was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 75 minutes.
R. Babb was given a chance to change things around.
Given a free kick in a difficult position after 78 minutes, Rödelheim tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish.
T. Kofoed of Rödelheim was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
After 80 minutes, Rödelheim were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
F. Viguie did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Rödelheim to 3 - 0 as
W. Zaiem finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
That made three goals for
W. Zaiem and he was marked down for the hat trick.
By now, the players in Rödelheim felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Rödelheim had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.
Rödelheim's top performer was clearly
F. Viguie.
B. LiVolti on the other hand, had a terrible day.
O. Anderson performed admirably for Achilles.
However,
T. Gameson made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 3 - 0.
