previous 7/10 next 9/10  Purple 3 - 0 R.S.C. (390054609)

51500 spectators arrived at Cheyenne Mountain, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Ramin Simmelbauer was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Kevin Bonn and Siim Jakuson. Purple had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. The following players took the field: Dowling - Hickman, Johansson, Bishop, Lankwitz - Payne, Jeffries, Ramakrishnan, Cust, Younger - Granfeldt.

R.S.C. tactics involved an interesting 4-3-3 combination. Starters: Zleovszki - Mazo Martínez, Delariviere, Bartocci, Virtaniemi - Estrabaut, Malo González, Fuentes Martínez - Lae, Schouten, Weisert.

It was an obvious ambition of Purple to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for R.S.C.. Purple had a chance to take the lead after F. Lankwitz's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 24 minutes. 28 minutes into the game, R.S.C. seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to solid. After 29 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as R.S.C. found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. Purple broke through on the left 36 minutes into the game, with K. Ramakrishnan firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 1 - 0 lead. 39 minutes in, R.S.C.'s T. Delariviere received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Purple managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when F. Lankwitz cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. 43 minutes in, J. Estrabaut made an incredible run up the middle and nearly reduced the home side's lead, but G. Dowling refused to let the ball slip by him. 2 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Purple, who controlled the ball 74 percent of the time.

Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of R.S.C. was able to get his message across, and raised R.S.C.'s organisation to solid. It was obvious that Purple had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. With 85 minutes played, K. Ramakrishnan could have brought this one home for Purple as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Purple coach let N. Maloumidis replace L. Cust after 85 minutes. U. Granfeldt was the new captain of Purple - handed the armband by the departing player. The coach of Purple was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 86 minutes, E. Lammas came on for U. Granfeldt. S. Jeffries became the new Purple captain. R.S.C. almost scored after a counterattack 87 minutes into the match, but S. Fuentes Martínez took a shot from the left that landed harmlessly in the side of the net. F. Bishop left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. D. Nixon was the replacement. Given a free kick close to the byline, Purple tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let N. Maloumidis slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 3 - 0, 89 minutes into the game. 89 minutes into the game, R.S.C. had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to inadequate. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Purple, with 74 percent of the ball.

Most important Purple player was C. Johansson. D. Nixon on the other hand, had a terrible day. J. Estrabaut performed admirably for R.S.C.. On the other hand, S. Fuentes Martínez's play was disheartening. The match ends 3 - 0.
