A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 36925 to Dino's Den. Stanislaw Natorski was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Matteo De Lucia and Burkhard Rössler. Koukounaries had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Fiaux - Godeanu, Hristov, Mickten, Gribanov - Salak, Netinho, Tiikkaja, Macías - Gaccioli, Buydaert.

Shawshank started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. The following players took the field: Penzo - Kozuń, Ienei, Lapierre - Bordovský, Toffanin, Vaz Martins, Ranquist - Zora, Farrar, Merlet.

Shawshank clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why C. Mickten found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork. With 12 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 - 0 lead as R. Netinho flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. Koukounaries's V. Hristov had an excellent opportunity after 25 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! Koukounaries solidified their lead at the 27 minute mark, as A. Tiikkaja dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Koukounaries lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. Koukounaries's A. Godeanu increased the lead to 3 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 33 minutes. F. Farrar of Shawshank was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. It was 3 - 0 at the break. Koukounaries enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 63 percent of possession.

The Koukounaries players could smell victory in the air. J. Buydaert wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for O. Ruiter after 70 minutes. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, A. Zora got himself booked. The manager of Shawshank was not happy. T. Gaccioli increased Koukounaries's lead to 4 - 0 with a penalty spot cannonball. T. Gaccioli wasn't much help defensively. His energy-consuming forward runs proved quite costly in the oppressive heat. After 87 minutes, O. Ruiter put Koukounaries ahead 5 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Koukounaries, with 63 percent of the ball.

R. Netinho performed admirably for Koukounaries. G. Fiaux was a disappointment, however. Most important Shawshank player was F. Farrar. F. Vaz Martins turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 5 - 0.
