19-08-2012 18.00
Dark skies made the crowd of 41000 at
The Cola Cube Stadium a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Iván Acedo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Mogens Hedegaard and
Jonathan Belda Pérez-Pedrero.
Windsor had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Schlender - González Carbonera, Spindler, Lipshten, Mountalexakis - Teodorczyk, Ottela, Świątek-Brzeziński, Casado, Leisted - Bán.
A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Gumball.
They fielded: Casco - Ekeberg, Pöysä, Tuš, Hohenbrunn - Cendrer, Grilo, Ros - Zwaartman, Cullen, Campier.
Gumball used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
Windsor had a chance to take the lead after
T. Ottela's dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled out as his shot went just over the bar after 38 minutes.
F. Rötsch was called on to replace Gumball's
T. Pöysä after 40 minutes following a nasty collision.
Windsor made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left
J. Bán completely alone with keeper
I. Casco, who made a spectacular block.
With 44 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
G. Casado needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.
The crowd groaned its disapproval when
J. Bán missed a free kick that would have given Windsor the lead after 44 minutes.
S. Leisted caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 44 minutes. This gave Windsor the 1 - 0 lead.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Windsor, with 59 percent of the ball.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
B. Świątek-Brzeziński got himself booked. The manager of Windsor was not happy.
Windsor's
B. Świątek-Brzeziński swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball.
Windsor managed to extend their lead to 2 - 0 when
A. Teodorczyk cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
Windsor enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
Windsor's best player was
B. Świątek-Brzeziński.
However,
S. Leisted made a disastrous appearance.
Gumball's top performer was clearly
A. Cendrer.
F. Rötsch on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 0.
