Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 80178 at
Com'on FC! Arena today.
Carlos Fernández was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Yu Kwannah and
Mario Bisogno.
Comon had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation.
They fielded: Buschiazzo - Tumanoff, Chang, Graaff, Tuvgård - Mucchi, Tukker, Druchinin, Krzyżowski, Morvan - Sermenho.
Ruiters tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Antwerpen - van Doesburgh, Huijberts - Boender, Snippe, Wentzel, Hekelaar, Versluis - Holst, Butterhoff, Meijerman.
Today, Comon's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks.
It was obvious that Comon had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle.
5 minutes into the match and the home team took a 1 - 0 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for Comon was
L. Chang.
After 10 minutes, the visitors levelled the scores after
L. Butterhoff made it through the middle and struck home to make it 1 - 1.
A questionable penalty 11 minutes in gave the home side the lead, 2 - 1. The visitors' goalie didn't stand a chance as
T. Tumanoff knocked the ball home.
Comon increased the lead as
O. Druchinin struck to make the score 3 - 1 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
Clever play that showed his experience gave
H. Versluis a good chance to score, but the shot hit the crossbar.
The teams went for the halftime break at 3 - 1.
Comon claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.
After 48 minutes, speedy
S. Morvan dashed past his marker, making plenty of room for the second wave of attack. However,
L. Sermenho failed to score.
Comon had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead.
After 51 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
L. Sermenho gave the Comon supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 4 - 1.
The Comon players could smell victory in the air.
K. Tukker wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
S. Møller Nielsen after 55 minutes.
Ruiters's
H. Versluis was shown a yellow card after 69 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
The player down was
M. Krzyżowski. The Comon bench looked worried for a while, but in the end he managed to get up.
A free kick just outside of the visitors' penalty area after 72 minutes could have resulted in another goal, but
J. Antwerpen got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar.
79 minutes in,
R. Meijerman made an incredible run up the middle and nearly reduced the home side's lead, but
M. Buschiazzo refused to let the ball slip by him.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 81 minutes, Comon did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
O. Druchinin was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 5 - 1.
By now, the players in Comon felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Comon put in a good effort on the right, but
O. Druchinin saw his volley fly wide of the mark 84 minutes into the game.
Comon had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.
Comon's top performer was clearly
L. Sermenho.
N. Mucchi on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Ruiters's best player was
R. Meijerman.
S. Huijberts turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 5 - 1.
