Dark skies made the crowd of 42746 at
Amsterdamned Squad Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Titouan Quiniou was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Aage Eriksen and
Kenny Haaning.
A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Amsterdamned.
Starters: Tungblom - Rus, Mollà, Bramati, Raga, Fincati - Hasret, Goedhart, Cordedda - Kokoš, Lukšėnas.
Legionnairs started off with a 4-5-1 lineup.
The following players had been chosen: Paredes - Bergboer, Munds, Tienhoven, de Nooijer - Lamm, Hurtado, Väkeväinen, Láska, Coene - Borgharts.
Amsterdamned clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
Legionnairs were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
K. Hasret's early cross saw the defenders caught out of position and the alert
D. Kokoš was able to pounce and roll the ball past the hapless goalkeeper to score for Amsterdamned. 1 - 0.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
G. Bramati from Amsterdamned a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 20 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
It was obvious that Legionnairs had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle.
After 36 minutes, Amsterdamned surprised their opponents with a breakaway counter attack. The defenders had to resort to a foul to stop it. The free kick that followed was a clever indirect effort that almost succeeded, but the defence read the situation well and the intended recipient was left ruing what might have been.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 0.
Legionnairs had most of the ball, with 65 percent of possession.
47 minutes into the match the visitors levelled the score at 1 - 1 as
Ē. Munds struck home from a rebound off the crossbar, following a shot from the right.
Legionnairs's
E. Bergboer lived up to his reputation for finding unexpected ways to get the ball in the net when he sent a nifty little pass over to
T. Borgharts who finished for 1 - 2 with 59 minutes of the match played.
Legionnairs came close to extending their lead as
H. Coene delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 65 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.
Legionnairs were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings.
Legionnairs's
E. Bergboer had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 70 minutes having been played.
R. Rijvers was the replacement.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Legionnairs, with 67 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Amsterdamned player was without a doubt
G. Bramati.
F. Goedhart on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important Legionnairs player was
J. Väkeväinen.
However,
J. Paredes made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 1 - 2.
