previous 5/10 next 7/10  Nijmegen 3 - 0 Delfgauw (390304947)

The crowd of 30555 turning up at The Pitch today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Ilya Heinsbroek was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Rolf Giaccobo and Maciej Saletra. Nijmegen started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Kalaba - Ros, Chikarovski, Azim - Ferdinand, Sullivan, Zlomužica, Roberts, Arcostro - Peled, Korejwo.

Delfgauw tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players took the field: Besson - Popek, Vysotskiy, Dorel - Akins, Defour, Barbut, Daniel, Vrátný - Kirkvaag, Olteanu.

It was an obvious ambition of Delfgauw to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. They were singing the praises of K. Sullivan 2 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Nijmegen. C. Azim did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. Nijmegen solidified their lead at the 36 minute mark, as A. Peled dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0. The players of Nijmegen now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Nijmegen's L. Roberts refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 37 minutes. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. R. Korejwo squirmed through their central defence after 43 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 0. 3 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Nijmegen, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

R. Korejwo of Nijmegen was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Nijmegen claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 61 percent.

Nijmegen's best player was W. Chikarovski. C. Azim was a disappointment, however. Delfgauw's top performer was clearly P. Kirkvaag. R. Akins on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 3 - 0.
