It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 16710 that came out to Weiland. helios were relying on their ability to counter-attack. J. Warnaar received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 11 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score. A lunatic dribble by B. Pool, in front of his own keeper, set up helios's L. Arvanitis for an embarrassingly easy strike after 22 minutes. 1 - 0! helios were able to mount several counterattacks, such as the impressive one after 25 minutes, but H. van der Krogt lofted a free kick over the crossbar. It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why D. Krabbé found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork. V. Waage's name was chanted throughout the stadium after he made a fantastic save from R. Veening's shot from the left 43 minutes into the match. helios almost scored after a swift counterattack 44 minutes into the game, but J. Warnaar put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. Flinter's defence sent a ball soaring up the middle on a beautiful counterattack with 44 minutes gone, but N. Stamsneijder's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Flinter, with 58 percent of the ball.

A cross coming in on the right hand side left J. van Eerden alone in front of the goal after 56 minutes but his shot was woeful. After 57 minutes, the defensive line of helios created a counterattack through the middle that gave E. Pool a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. The home team will be cursing S. Lekkerkerker for weeks; he finished off a great pass from the left, knocking it past the keeper without a problem. The match was level at 1 - 1 after 72 minutes. Flinter claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 65 percent.

helios's best player was E. Pool. However, V. Waage made a disastrous appearance. D. Krabbé performed admirably for Flinter. A. van der Leur was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 1.
