Samp ER were great at switching from defence to attack, and after 65 minutes, R. van Mieris swept through the middle on a counterattack, making the score 0 - 3. A. Ferreira came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over J. van Tiggelen but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when H. Cajot tried to sneak the ball past the keeper. C. Puşcaşu was too alert for that! 71 minutes in, Buitenvekdert's C. Starre received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. R. van Mieris received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 78 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 4. The Samp ER fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. The players of Samp ER now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Samp ER had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.
