12000 spectators arrived at Sugarplace, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Henrik Heggland was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Chiel Bonnink and Augustin Militaru. A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for HGK1. They fielded: Spurný - Becue, Kukka, Jiménez, Hulpe, Dračka - Portka, François, Ökmen - Salonmaa, Sekerlioglu.

FCAU started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. The following players took the field: Bronsema - Peekel, van Baarle, Grootings, van Wessel - Clignet, Zingstra, Esman, Kriek - de Ron, Schrama.

A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 15 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called HGK1's V. Jiménez to one side and produced a red card for the player. J. van Wessel hit the corner kick straight to the keeper, but it was mishandled, giving FCAU's W. de Ron an easy chance to knock it in for 0 - 1. HGK1's J. Salonmaa put his head to a well placed ball, lifted in from the left, and scored to make the score 1 - 1 with 28 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock. HGK1 fans held their breath as K. Sekerlioglu scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 2 - 1! A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in HGK1's A. Portka increasing the lead to 3 - 1. With 33 minutes played, HGK1's M. François almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net. E. van Baarle of FCAU received a yellow card after 37 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. HGK1's G. Becue increased the lead to 4 - 1, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 38 minutes. 4 - 1 was the halftime score. HGK1 claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 78 percent.

HGK1 put in a good effort on the right, but J. Salonmaa saw his volley fly wide of the mark 59 minutes into the game. V. Hulpe of HGK1 was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. A well-executed free kick by M. François after 72 minutes made it 5 - 1 for HGK1. After this, you could see that the players of HGK1 were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. HGK1 had to make a substitution after 73 minutes. J. Salonmaa limped off the field and was replaced by U. Gaasenbeek. A great save by keeper R. Bronsema after 76 minutes kept the visitors in the game after V. Hulpe struck from the left with a real cannonball. HGK1 put themselves up 6 - 1 when U. Gaasenbeek broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake. Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 84 minutes, HGK1 did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker, B. Dračka was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 7 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to HGK1, who controlled the ball 81 percent of the time.

Most important HGK1 player was K. Sekerlioglu. J. Spurný on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating FCAU player was without a doubt W. de Ron. P. Grootings turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 7 - 1.
