previous 4/10 next 6/10  Spartak 1 - 0 Fontevechia (390837231)

The 48463 spectators at Karel Poborsky were in for an afternoon of sunshine. Claude Perrin was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Laurits Kobæk Larsen and Jean-Jacques Artus. Spartak decided to use a 4-5-1 set up. Starters: Segatto - Schiochet, Goulart, Čiudakovas, Apak - Jalín, Zubalburu, Ortasca, Featron, Langmaack - Zanier.

Fontevechia had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Muñoz - Roma, Oldag, Krenc - Borie, Jacques, Androni, Rubio de Tejada, Neto - Lauth, Valpuesta.

M. Segatto looked great 23 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' C. Roma. A. Gilabert was called on to replace Fontevechia's D. Neto after 39 minutes following a nasty collision. It was 0 - 0 at the break. Spartak enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

With the match clock at 46 minutes, Fontevechia modified their style of play a little bit. Making his way up the middle 54 minutes into the match, C. Jalín almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert F. Muñoz blocked it to keep the score level. The referee showed Spartak's M. Goulart the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when F. Rubio de Tejada slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against M. Segatto, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. 77 minutes in, Fontevechia's C. Roma received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave B. Oldag from Fontevechia a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 79 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! M. Segatto of Spartak had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. V. Granel came in to finish the match. The goal for 1 - 0 was a funny story: after 81 minutes the seemingly nonchalant lob from Spartak's S. Zubalburu landed at the feet of A. Zanier who sidefooted it into the net - nice goal! Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Fontevechia manager used a brief break in play after 81 minutes to give the players new directives. This part of the game was a standoff between the teams in terms of possession.

A. Zanier performed admirably for Spartak. On the other hand, V. Granel's play was disheartening. Fontevechia's best player was K. Krenc. A. Gilabert was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 0.
