Vicenza 3 - 3 Cachetazo (390837497)

41915 spectators had found their way to Belgrano M., despite the heavy rain. José Luis Bichsel was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Karl Stranz and Rafael Landa. Vicenza tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. Starters: Khumkerd - Nissan, Hauenschild, Mercurio - Niemann, Nilsson, Ordoki, Nowaliński - Oberti, Damiani, Raño.

Cachetazo had chosen a strategic 5-2-3 formation. They fielded: Turrini - Confalonieri, Miró Benítez, Bjørn, Timpanaro, Fusek - Lacroix, Ezquieta - Acket, Reyes, Tuur.

Cachetazo clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. 5 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Vicenza to take the lead after a good cross from the right found R. Damiani alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. A counterattack by Cachetazo after 6 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but O. Tuur, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off. 18 minutes in, Cachetazo appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only solid. It was a bad day for the usually speedy P. Confalonieri. The mud seemed to slow him down. Speedy R. Damiani tried one of his patented rushes 28 minutes into the game, but G. Miró Benítez was just as fast and averted the attack. The muddy pitch made the game a gritty affair, which seemed to suit R. Hauenschild just fine. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Cachetazo's O. Tuur after 37 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 0 - 1 lead. Vicenza's Z. Nowaliński made a successful breakthrough on the left after 38 minutes and should have levelled the score, but instead he clipped it over the bar. F. Ezquieta was first to reach a ball launched long through the center from Cachetazo's defence 39 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the goalkeeper to make the score 0 - 2. G. Oberti tried to get a goal back for Vicenza but despite all his hard work down the right, he just couldn't complete the move. After 42 minutes, Cachetazo surprised their opponents with a breakaway counter attack. The defenders had to resort to a foul to stop it. The free kick that followed was a clever indirect effort that almost succeeded, but the defence read the situation well and the intended recipient was left ruing what might have been. The referee showed Cachetazo's A. Acket the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. 0 - 2 was the score after the first half. Vicenza had most of the ball, with 70 percent of possession.

During the break, Cachetazo's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to solid organisation. Vicenza's fans were urging them forward as they tried to get back into the game, and their vocal support was rewarded 47 minutes into the match as T. Nilsson ran onto a beautiful ball played through the visitors' defence and slotted it past the keeper to reduce the deficit. 1 - 2. R. Damiani showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 69 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 2 - 2 equaliser away. Vicenza broke through on the left 77 minutes into the game, with G. Oberti firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 3 - 2 lead. F. Ezquieta finished off the counterattack of Cachetazo from the left rather easily, making the score 3 - 3. The coach of Cachetazo wanted to try to change things around after 80 minutes, and gave new tactical instructions. Priding himself in being an active coach, the Cachetazo manager gave new instructions to his players after 80 minutes. Possession in this half belonged to Vicenza, who controlled the ball 71 percent of the time.

R. Hauenschild performed admirably for Vicenza. Z. Nowaliński on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Cachetazo player was without a doubt A. Acket. However, M. Timpanaro made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 3 - 3.
