previous 2/10 next 4/10  Nickerie 0 - 9 Paramaribo (391204920)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 7000 had shown up at Nickerie Park for the match. Hoanh Huong Luc was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Rolf Nilssen and Andrés Brennan. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Nickerie. Starters: Suharsono - Pistorius, Jaiswal, Blank, Dhameja - Maradona, Sillevis, Bekius, Adhikari - Roekito, van Hooijdonk.

Paramaribo decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Nord - Dugajlija, Guillon, Reiziger - Okamura, Molgren, Does, Benner, Valdman - Battochia, Sitaru.

Paramaribo's V. Sitaru managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 14 minutes. 0 - 1. Given a free kick in a difficult position after 15 minutes, Paramaribo tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. A drive down the left side allowed V. Sitaru to get in close and score another goal for Paramaribo after 31 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 2. After 33 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave N. Molgren a chance to increase the lead for Paramaribo, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 3. The referee signalled a penalty 35 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box. R. Does knocked it home to make the score 0 - 4. Confident in their lead, Paramaribo's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Halftime score was 0 - 4. Paramaribo had most of the ball, with 71 percent of possession.

Some fine movement on the left led to a Paramaribo goal after 65 minutes, making it 0 - 5. R. Does was noted down as the scorer. The visitors' A. Battochia took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 74 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for Paramaribo. The home crowd cheered when, after 81 minutes, N. Molgren's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. After 82 minutes, Paramaribo's J. Reiziger burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 7. After 83 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for N. Molgren who increased Paramaribo's lead to 0 - 8. The corner kick from R. Does was powerfully met by the head of H. Okamura to make the score 0 - 9. The referee showed Nickerie's S. Maradona the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Paramaribo, with 73 percent of the ball.

Most important Nickerie player was A. Roekito. A. Jaiswal on the other hand, had a terrible day. Paramaribo's best player was J. Guillon. However, N. Molgren made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 9.
