previous 9/10 next 1/10  Waterfoot 0 - 2 HM (391229882)

Clear skies welcomed the 22958 spectators who had made their way to Waterfooting. Boris Maubeuge was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Alexander Abuksis and Henriks Osenieks. Waterfoot decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Lineup: Marku - Vallespir, Darłak, Thies - Freire, Tomasini, Valenzuela, Konetzke, Dietesheim - Begly, Thomas.

A 4-3-3 alignment was the formation of choice for HM. The following players had been chosen: Duma - Guedes Ferreira, Strnadel, Mertens, Coazo - Ezquer, Mairhofer, Erkan - Chalecki, Afzali, Solari.

Waterfoot tried to focus their attacks down the middle. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Waterfoot, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Waterfoot had a good opportunity to take the lead as R. Begly came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of M. Duma. HM had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 27 minutes in when M. Strnadel came up alone against T. Marku who managed a block. Waterfoot's M. Vallespir was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 29 minutes. Waterfoot players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. It was obvious that team Waterfoot had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Waterfoot enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 71 percent of possession.

Many thought P. Darłak ought to have been awarded a penalty 47 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around M. Duma after a determined run through the middle. N. Mertens was in the clear after breaking the offside trap following a HM counterattack from the left after 48 minutes. His neat finish made the score 0 - 1. Waterfoot were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Waterfoot put pressure on the visitors' central defence 51 minutes into the game, but T. Dietesheim couldn't find an opening. The visitors' J. Ezquer took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 61 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for HM. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Waterfoot's E. Thomas was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 70 minutes. D. Cerqueira was given a chance to change things around. Waterfoot had most of the ball, with 69 percent of possession.

Waterfoot's top performer was clearly A. Valenzuela. T. Marku was a disappointment, however. HM's best player was S. Afzali. J. Ezquer on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 2.
