Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 17108 to
Apoquindo Arena.
Martin Mörnstål was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Juan José Tiatuahcan and
Franco Simonetti.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Católica.
The following players had been chosen: Cocio - Fleckenstein, Välivaara, Pusam, Štokenbergs - Kastner, Bontempi, Dumko, Rigopoulos - Somers, Dobraniak.
Marraqueta decided to use a 4-3-3 set up.
Lineup: Raaz - Vidaurre, Tylka, Aballay, Farmer - Moutela, Montes, Fiebig - Lozano, Puertocarrero, Mercado.
Católica decided to play creatively.
Marraqueta mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
0 - 1 was the score with 3 minutes played, after
L. Puertocarrero cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Marraqueta.
After 8 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
C. Lozano a chance to increase the lead for Marraqueta, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2.
A drive down the left side allowed
M. Aballay to get in close and score another goal for Marraqueta after 20 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 3.
Confident in their lead, Marraqueta's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
C. Lozano came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over
J. Cocio but overcooked it and hit the bar instead.
S. Montes increased Marraqueta's lead to 0 - 4 with a superb free kick strike that flew in just under the far top corner.
Some fine movement on the left led to a Marraqueta goal after 40 minutes, making it 0 - 5.
E. Vidaurre was noted down as the scorer.
0 - 5 was the halftime score.
Marraqueta enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 68 percent of possession.
After 58 minutes,
S. Montes sent the corner kick right to
P. Tylka who headed it sharply past the keeper. 0 - 6!
J. Cocio got a fingertip on
S. Montes's shot from the left 64 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal.
With the scoreboard showing that 81 minutes had been played, Marraqueta nearly put themselves up another goal after
L. Puertocarrero came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
Marraqueta's
P. Tylka left the field after 82 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
S. Gerdkvist.
L. Puertocarrero received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 83 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 7. The Marraqueta fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
Marraqueta had most of the ball, with 69 percent of possession.
Most important Católica player was
P. Dobraniak.
J. Cocio was a disappointment, however.
Marraqueta's top performer was clearly
C. Lozano.
E. Vidaurre on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 0 - 7.
