The crowd of 21089 turning up at
Caupolican Stadium today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain.
Ludovico Lordi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Christian Littke and
Jaime Naranco.
independiente had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
They fielded: Zarske - Costa Caetano, Revuelta, Klangling - Okano, Gonella, Christofis, Lara, Heiligers - Nosti, Baeke.
Penetra decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Lineup: Soupper - Vivanco, Relmulafken, Folkerts, Barbaste - Rosende, Sierra, Schmidt, Cuadra - Rabago, Cáceres.
It was an obvious ambition of Penetra to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
J. Gonella gave independiente the lead with a beautiful free kick after 9 minutes. 1 - 0!
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of independiente to 2 - 0 as
O. Costa Caetano finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
After 28 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
J. Revuelta gave the independiente supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of independiente lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
D. Barbaste was having a great game - if anything the pouring rain seemed to be spurring him on!
The cannonball from 35 metres by
D. Christofis of independiente was an impressive sight, but didn't make it into the net.
It was 3 - 0 at the break.
independiente enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 61 percent of possession.
Maybe due to the uphill battle the team was facing, the Penetra manager looked to change things around. After 46 minutes,
D. Rabago and
A. Cáceres swapped positions on the field.
The score became 4 - 0 at 47 minutes into the game, when independiente were given a penalty which
J. Gonella blasted straight down the middle giving the keeper no chance!
independiente's
O. Costa Caetano was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 62 minutes.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as independiente scored another to make it 5 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
U. Klangling after 66 minutes.
As the game started to slip away for Penetra, the manager decided to change the tactical approach.
The Penetra players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team.
independiente increased the lead as
J. Gonella struck to make the score 6 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
That made three goals for
J. Gonella and he was marked down for the hat trick.
The visitors got a chance to pulling one back after 80 minutes, due to a defensive blunder leaving
E. Cuadra completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, easy prey for the home side's keeper.
independiente had most of the ball, with 58 percent of possession.
The most dominating independiente player was without a doubt
F. Nosti.
E. Heiligers on the other hand, had a terrible day.
A. Cáceres performed admirably for Penetra.
G. Folkerts was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 6 - 0.
