previous 3/10 next 5/10  Schalke 3 - 6 jugando (391304031)

5252 punters turned up at Schalke Stadium, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Sergio Rescigno was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Lineu Baltazar and Corey Rowland. Schalke had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. They fielded: Abella - Rioseco, Murga, Villadiego - Villareal, Estévez, Longeri, Paillaqueo - Uddner, Salas, Montagut.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for jugando. The following players took the field: Hesp - Araube, Parra, Alemparte, Moraga - Catalán, Arjmandpour, Valenzuela, Lilja - Sorongan, Scarfati.

Schalke clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. jugando mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle. Z. Murga of Schalke seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 1 - 0 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by A. Salas. After 17 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by T. Uddner might have resulted in another goal for Schalke. However, U. Hesp made a spectacular save. The visitors didn't give in and, after 31 minutes, P. Scarfati got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 1 - 1. jugando's R. Valenzuela was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 37 minutes. 1 - 2 was the score with 38 minutes played, after Z. Sorongan cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for jugando. jugando's J. Araube left the field after 40 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was B. Aravena. 41 minutes into the game, Schalke seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a solid level of organisation. With a shot curled in from just outside the middle of the penalty area after 42 minutes played, L. Montagut of Schalke made the score 2 - 2. With 43 minutes played, jugando's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to J. Parra he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 2 - 3. T. Catalán was, after 43 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper H. Abella made the save. 2 - 3 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to jugando, who controlled the ball 57 percent of the time.

Despite his frustration resulting in the smashing of a few teacups, the coach of Schalke was able to get his message across, and raised Schalke's organisation to excellent. Some fine movement on the left led to a jugando goal after 62 minutes, making it 2 - 4. T. Catalán was noted down as the scorer. With 63 minutes gone, jugando's R. Valenzuela had to leave the pitch after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking. T. Catalán was handed the jugando captain's armband. 73 minutes into the game, Schalke had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to solid. With 74 minutes having been played, his teammates looked on in disbelief as B. Aravena thoughtlessly misplayed the ball, setting up Schalke's A. Salas for an easy goal. 3 - 4. The referee signalled a penalty 78 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box. B. Arjmandpour knocked it home to make the score 3 - 5. By now, the players in jugando felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. B. Aravena received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 80 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 3 - 6. The jugando fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. The home crowd cheered when, after 82 minutes, Z. Sorongan's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. jugando claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

Schalke's best player was A. Salas. L. Montagut on the other hand, had a terrible day. Most important jugando player was P. Scarfati. However, B. Aravena made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 3 - 6.
