The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 12000 had shown up at
Saputo Stadium for the match.
Nathaniel Bari was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Hugo Amadeu and
Petr Škop.
Montreal started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
Starters: Flaherty - Mudasser, Mansur, Khalizev, Durrani - Franks, Sanderson, Chapko, Laporte - Schnitzler, Applegate.
Moffat decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Reilly - Wing, de Leest, Cannon, Van de Vijver - Ben-David, Kozel, Ruel, Locke, Argov - Varela.
The visitors grabbed the lead after
O. de Leest's free kick succeeded, resulting in a score of 0 - 1.
Moffat's
O. Ben-David got himself booked for a foul.
An accurate cross from
O. Ben-David of Moffat was met with a wonderful glancing header from
O. Argov, hitting the inside base of the post before nestling into the back of the net for 0 - 2.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Moffat lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Moffat's
S. Ruel's long shot really ought to have found the net 18 minutes into the match, but it fell just wide of the target.
Moffat increased their lead after 24 minutes when
S. Ruel broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay.
After 27 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
K. Van de Vijver who increased Moffat's lead to 0 - 4.
28 minutes in, Montreal's
I. Mudasser received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
After 30 minutes Moffat's
O. de Leest contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.
K. Mansur's inexperience was obvious when his continual hesitation to put in a tackle allowed
C. Varela plenty of time to pick an unguarded area of the goal for his shot, marking one for Moffat. 0 - 5.
0 - 5 was the halftime score.
Possession in this half belonged to Moffat, who controlled the ball 86 percent of the time.
O. de Leest left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 46 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
N. Al-Rawahy was the replacement.
Some fine movement on the left led to a Moffat goal after 60 minutes, making it 0 - 6.
O. Argov was noted down as the scorer.
After 62 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
O. Ben-David to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 7.
K. Van de Vijver could have put his team up another goal 63 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post.
S. Ruel received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 68 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 8. The Moffat fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
Montreal's
A. Durrani was shown a yellow card after 71 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
K. Sanderson of Montreal received a yellow card after 83 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
With 84 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
J. Wing of Moffat to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 9.
Moffat had most of the ball, with 89 percent of possession.
A. Franks performed admirably for Montreal.
T. Flaherty turned in a dismal performance, however.
Moffat's best player was
C. Varela.
P. Cannon was a disappointment, however.
