Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 55097 at Oil Pit today. Ariel Arnaldo Gaiteri was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Claes Grundbrant and Zdzisław Szczepański. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Oilers. Starters: Damboeck - Kavanagh, Setrakyan, Arroyo - Parnell, bin Abdul Hamid, Bosworth, Grier, Bančić - Kristiansson, Colonna.

Beavers started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. The following players took the field: Trindade - Barbot, Bousquet - Castro Dias, Parlak, Singleton, Casasses, Xinxola - Morchy, Sutherland, Ares.

It seemed as though Oilers considered the game won before even taking the field, which resulted in a very uninspired start to the game. S. Bančić gave Oilers the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 1 - 0 Oilers solidified their lead at the 23 minute mark, as A. Setrakyan dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0. The players of Oilers now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Oilers's R. Arroyo struck his penalty well enough to beat the goalkeeper and extend the home team's lead to 3 - 0 after 26 minutes. Oilers managed to extend their lead to 4 - 0 when H. bin Abdul Hamid cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave A. Setrakyan from Oilers a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 28 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! After 30 minutes Beavers's E. Bousquet contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. Cheers filled the stadium as G. Kristiansson broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 5 - 0 to Oilers. Halftime score was 5 - 0. Oilers enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 61 percent of possession.

A. Setrakyan had a fantastic opportunity to put Oilers up another goal 49 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. Beavers's B. Ares left the field after 73 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was J. Učeň. 76 minutes were showing on the scoreboard when Oilers's A. Setrakyan received his second yellow card and was sent off. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, K. Sutherland got himself booked. The manager of Beavers was not happy. Things were deteriorating for the away team as Oilers scored another to make it 6 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for A. Bosworth after 82 minutes. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Oilers's H. bin Abdul Hamid increasing the lead to 7 - 0. With 86 minutes played, Oilers put themselves up 8 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to A. Bosworth, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. G. Kristiansson wanted to play on, but the Oilers coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 88 minutes into the game by J. Jeffries. Possession in this half belonged to Oilers, who controlled the ball 65 percent of the time.

The most dominating Oilers player was without a doubt M. Colonna. However, S. Bančić made a disastrous appearance. Most important Beavers player was S. Singleton. E. Bousquet was a disappointment, however. The match ends 8 - 0.
