Moffat 1 - 3 Montreal
(391463914)

05-08-2012 23.00
It had rained all day, but 43133 hardy fans still made it out to
The Wooded Field.
Giacomo Carusone was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Göran Johansson and
Milan Bozic.
Moffat tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
They fielded: Gwioździk - Al-Rawahy, Ben-David, Sandid - Kozel, Famulski, Thüme, Fallourd, Argov - Randall, Varela.
Montreal had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Flinders - Slavec, Valen, Strand - Hotvedt, Baader, Viens, Brewster, Villagra - Platschka, Aguirre.
Montreal clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 20 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
E. Thüme, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
Montreal levelled the score after 39 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as
H. Strand struck home after a fine midfield combination through the centre, which left him completely unmarked.
S. Viens fired a shot from distance after 42 minutes, but the long shot couldn't find the net for Montreal.
Montreal had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially 44 minutes in when
G. Platschka came up alone against
Z. Gwioździk who managed a block.
1 - 1 was the halftime score.
Moffat enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.
N. Al-Rawahy always provides an aerial threat at corners, and with 49 minutes gone, he demonstrated this, outjumping his marker, then letting out an anguished howl as his powerful header went narrowly wide.
80 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
M. Slavec, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
C. Varela got himself booked. The manager of Moffat was not happy.
Montreal had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks.
Montreal took the lead 83 minutes into the game, making the score 1 - 2 after some elegant movement down the middle.
L. Baader was the scorer.
Montreal increased their lead after 84 minutes when
L. Baader broke through on the right, upping the score to 1 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay.
Possession in this half belonged to Moffat, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.
The most dominating Moffat player was without a doubt
N. Randall.
However,
O. Argov made a disastrous appearance.
Montreal's best player was
G. Platschka.
On the other hand,
G. Villagra's play was disheartening.
The match ends 1 - 3.
