previous 7/10 next 9/10  limelight 4 - 2 Wigam (391464677)

Overcast weather free of rain made for a crowd turnout of 36700 at lime road today. Teo Beati was the appointed referee with assistance provided by David Moelijn and Mathias Stadlhofer. A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for limelight. The following players had been chosen: Renczes - Lopez Murphy, Serradas, Reed - Mæhlum, Pirzer, Dehlbom, Bleyen - Bielawny, Barata, Kraj.

Wigam had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Mărunţelu - Verdeja, Chiotis, Kehrli - Waltenspiel, Moreno, Kolnik, Delgado, Forsberg - Baliarda, Platts.

limelight used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. It was an obvious ambition of Wigam to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. K. Bielawny caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 19 minutes. This gave limelight the 1 - 0 lead. H. Barata could have increased the lead after 21 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. Cheers filled the stadium as J. Kraj broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to limelight. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave J. Bleyen from limelight a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 27 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! limelight players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. 32 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as T. Mæhlum broke through, making the score 3 - 0 for limelight. After 34 minutes, limelight's J. Bleyen fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! It was 3 - 0 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to limelight, who controlled the ball 60 percent of the time.

The bench was restless, and with 46 minutes passed Wigam's coach gave R. Duncan the opportunity the player had been hoping for. J. Moreno reluctantly left the field. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, Wigam's A. Platts was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 46 minutes. G. van der Pas was given a chance to change things around. The limelight players could smell victory in the air. J. Bleyen wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for B. Flahaut after 60 minutes. With 74 minutes played, limelight's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to K. Bielawny he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 4 - 0. After this, you could see that the players of limelight were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. J. Kraj left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 75 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. L. Jeppesen was the replacement. The home crowd was silenced as G. Chiotis took a successful penalty shot 82 minutes into the game, reducing the home lead to 4 - 1. 84 minutes into the game, G. Kolnik had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came O. Cherry. limelight had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. limelight's M. Dehlbom saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 89 minutes. B. Flahaut had a fantastic opportunity to put limelight up another goal 89 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. O. Cherry's lack of experience almost gave limelight a goal after 89 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. Wigam reduced the lead after 89 minutes to 4 - 2 as R. Duncan easily chipped the ball past the home side's keeper after a dazzling play from the right. limelight claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 62 percent.

Most important limelight player was L. Jeppesen. B. Flahaut on the other hand, had a terrible day. R. Baliarda performed admirably for Wigam. However, O. Cherry made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 4 - 2.
