previous 3/4 next 1/4  Fawcett 0 - 1 Saskatchewan (391498288)

Clear skies welcomed the 12000 spectators who had made their way to Fawcett Arena. 黄 (Huang) 航荣 (Hangrong) was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Dimitrije Kunovac and François Degardin. Fawcett decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. They fielded: Melendez - Sheehy, Merchant, 恒光 (Hengguang), Julien - Edwards, Marchessault, Flint, Tennyson - Hobbs, Zlabinger.

Saskatchewan had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Simpson - Montano, Thomas, Clarke, Martin - Zanzi, Lauzon, Fleury, Halloran - Queneville, Desrosiers.

8 minutes into the match, Saskatchewan nearly took the lead, as G. Desrosiers broke through on the right. M. Melendez made the save, however. C. Merchant of Fawcett was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Halftime score was 0 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Fawcett, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.

R. Flint always provides an aerial threat at corners, and with 63 minutes gone, he demonstrated this, outjumping his marker, then letting out an anguished howl as his powerful header went narrowly wide. Saskatchewan's A. Zanzi gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 75 minutes with a superb strike from the right. I. Martin of Saskatchewan received a yellow card after 79 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. The home crowd cheered when, after 83 minutes, L. Halloran's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. G. Desrosiers could have put his team up another goal 84 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. Saskatchewan claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.

Fawcett's top performer was clearly B. Edwards. R. Flint turned in a dismal performance, however. The most dominating Saskatchewan player was without a doubt M. Queneville. However, B. Simpson made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 1.
