06-08-2012 00.00
Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and
Arena da Tribo saw a crowd turnout of 56107.
Alejandro Jofre was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Stephan Beerkircher and
Karl Böspflug.
Charrua had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Lineup: Mandrini - Curtopelle, Yaken, Tempe - Verriest, Grassere, Tornbratt, Pfister, Benkovič - Mahmutbegović, Baroux.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Teófilo.
Starters: McGee - Birin, Stabel, Lima Martins - Kläne, Jobim, Scheidl, Perneta, Huerdo - Cenoura, Mela.
Charrua seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.
Teófilo were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
Teófilo's
L. Cenoura got himself booked for a foul.
Charrua took the lead 15 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as
G. Grassere elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar.
17 minutes into the game
L. Cenoura could see that the opposing goalie was out of position and tried an unexpected lob that the keeper just barely reached. The rebound went to
D. Huerdo who failed to hit the target.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
G. Grassere from Charrua a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 18 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
1 - 0 was the halftime score.
Charrua enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.
50 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
O. Tornbratt broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for Charrua.
Charrua solidified their lead at the 74 minute mark, as
G. Verriest dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 0.
The referee showed Charrua's
S. Curtopelle the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
G. Scheidl's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for Teófilo, he bravely continued in the match.
Cheers filled the stadium as
G. Verriest broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Charrua.
After this, you could see that the players of Charrua were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
Possession in this half belonged to Charrua, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.
Most important Charrua player was
M. Mandrini.
On the other hand,
G. Verriest's play was disheartening.
Teófilo's best player was
L. Cenoura.
A. McGee was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 4 - 0.
