32782 punters turned up at
Praia do Arpoador, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Per Hansson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Ronald Ratliff and
Rayum Polderman.
COPANEMA decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
They fielded: Kúnchev - Lisboa, Junqueira, Fontoura, Ranieli - Kleveland, Hoffmann-Stark, Kövesfalvi, Rasiha - Garabedian, Dubesset.
Forrozeiros tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Pernilongo - Romualdi, Magro, de Barros, Pessoa Neto - Shoburyu, Viegas, Estevez, Ramalho - de Lara, Silva.
COPANEMA fans held their breath as
M. Garabedian scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 1 - 0!
The home side's
A. Kövesfalvi came close to extending the lead 16 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but
R. Pernilongo managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop.
D. Estevez received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 22 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score.
35 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
G. Kleveland broke through, making the score 2 - 0 for COPANEMA.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
H. Hoffmann-Stark squirmed through their central defence after 36 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 0.
By now, the players in COPANEMA felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
COPANEMA managed to extend their lead to 4 - 0 when
H. Hoffmann-Stark cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
The crowd gasped as
R. Pernilongo of Forrozeiros was flattened by an opponent after 40 minutes and had to be carried off.
R. Tambor came in off the bench.
The teams went for the halftime break at 4 - 0.
COPANEMA enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 89 percent of possession.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
R. de Lara from Forrozeiros a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 61 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
A loud groan was heard from the fans of COPANEMA, as
M. Kúnchev left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match.
D. de Sá took his place on the field.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in COPANEMA's
D. Ranieli increasing the lead to 5 - 0.
After 68 minutes,
D. Ranieli put COPANEMA ahead 6 - 0 when he rose to head in a cross from the right wing.
The referee showed Forrozeiros's
I. Silva the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Cheers filled the stadium as
G. Kleveland broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 7 - 0 to COPANEMA.
COPANEMA increased the lead as
J. Dubesset struck to make the score 8 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
After 86 minutes, COPANEMA raised their score by one when
S. Rasiha's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
J. Dubesset. 9 - 0.
87 minutes into the game, COPANEMA were awarded a penalty that
A. Kövesfalvi turned into 10 - 0 without a problem.
After 88 minutes COPANEMA's
J. Dubesset limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by COPANEMA, with 92 percent of the ball.
The most dominating COPANEMA player was without a doubt
M. Garabedian.
U. Fontoura was a disappointment, however.
Forrozeiros's top performer was clearly
M. Pessoa Neto.
R. Tambor turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 10 - 0.
