50000 punters turned up at
Vila Arena, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Mattias Flodén was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Burç Tamur and
Jan Äijö.
A.F.S. decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Pesci - Kalloch, Filtenborg, Quintavalla - Spanner, Massen, Garibay, Balashev, Campana - Hummel, Zak.
Tolentino started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Guzmán - Garrafa, Longley, Telch - Xavier, Muniz Leite, Di Marco, Pisilä, Michel - van der Gouw, Wehrle.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Tolentino.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
J. Pisilä from Tolentino a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 3 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Tolentino's
R. Wehrle finished emphatically to make the score 0 -1 after 12 minutes, after the enigmatic
P. Di Marco pulled a delightful long pass from his box of tricks to bypass the defence.
With the crowd on their feet chanting wildly, some great moves down the right hand side after 14 minutes gave A.F.S. a wonderful opportunity to level the score, and
A. Campana stepped up to the challenge. 1 - 1
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
A. Zak, but the A.F.S. player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 2 - 1!
Tolentino's
M. Michel was shown a yellow card after 19 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Given a free kick close to the byline, A.F.S. tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
S. Hummel slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 3 - 1, 22 minutes into the game.
Confident in their lead, A.F.S.'s players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it.
A.F.S.'s
R. Garibay scored to make the score 4 - 1 after 26 minutes by shooting accurately and hard from a long distance, leaving the opponent keeper no other option than to pick the ball out of the net.
It was 4 - 1 at the break.
Possession in this half belonged to A.F.S., who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.
A.F.S.'s
A. Spanner refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 53 minutes.
60 minutes into the game, A.F.S.'s
A. Balashev fired home from an incredible distance! We'll be seeing that on Xmas goal compilation DVDs for years to come! 5 - 1.
E. Pesci wanted to play on, but the A.F.S. coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 89 minutes into the game by
G. Sorzano.
A.F.S. had most of the ball, with 55 percent of possession.
The most dominating A.F.S. player was without a doubt
A. Zak.
However,
G. Sorzano made a disastrous appearance.
Tolentino's top performer was clearly
R. Wehrle.
M. Guzmán on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 5 - 1.
