previous 4/10 next 6/10  Universal 0 - 4 Saracatrasca (391808538)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 64074 had shown up at "El Gran Ramirez" for the match. Zivko Ilic was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Adriano Peluso and Jim Brinkley. People from all over Montevideo had joined up for the derby. Universal started off with a 4-5-1 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Ukkonen - Basri, Silvis, Sabiha, Kunst - Gugała, Bahounek, Broich, Lifshitz, Fornés - Daniloff.

Saracatrasca had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Brienne - Le Parc, Castellarnau, Sobot - Pizzi, Lundhner, Schalburg, Shaw, Tiralongo - Palacios, M'pamy.

The strategy for Universal was to use their ability to press. The guests almost went up by a goal after 16 minutes when S. M'pamy came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though. After 18 minutes, Saracatrasca's C. Castellarnau made his way through the middle and nonchalantly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach, putting the visitors up 0 - 1. The Universal coach was desperate to reverse his team's fortunes in the game, and ordered his team to change strategy. 0 - 1 was the halftime score. Saracatrasca had most of the ball, with 59 percent of possession.

Saracatrasca caught their opponents out with a clever counterattack down the right wing 76 minutes into the match. S. M'pamy was able to finish off the move - 0 - 2. With 77 minutes played, the Universal coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. R. Messner came on, T. Silvis had to leave the fray. Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Universal manager used a brief break in play after 77 minutes to give the players new directives. The bench was restless, and with 77 minutes passed Universal's coach gave M. Vallarino the opportunity the player had been hoping for. K. Kunst reluctantly left the field. Some fine movement on the left led to a Saracatrasca goal after 78 minutes, making it 0 - 3. L. Palacios was noted down as the scorer. The players of Saracatrasca now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. The pressing tactics used by Universal were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Universal's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. 82 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 4 as C. Pizzi finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Saracatrasca, with 63 percent of the ball.

Universal's best player was T. Daniloff. G. Gugała was a disappointment, however. R. Shaw performed admirably for Saracatrasca. G. Le Parc on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 4.
