A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 72486 to
Old Trafford.
Beat Hauensteiner was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Martin Tschumi and
Mirco Fitznar.
Boys decided to use a 3-4-3 set up.
They fielded: Piffer - Skar, Zeppegno, Ord - Riisgaard, Pérez, Aver, Reboledo - van Essen, Hasan, Padrin.
A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Flaites.
Lineup: Zol - Klik, Curbelo, Piazzolla, Calleja, Gustavsson - Schorer, 宇鵬 (Yupeng) , Wilmar - Tellander, Zilvesters.
Flaites clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 2 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from
D. Zeppegno, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing.
Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile
A. Hasan.
Flaites's
E. Zol refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 23 minutes.
Flaites had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 25 minutes, but
E. Tellander's shot from the left sailed high over the bar.
With 27 minutes played,
J. Riisgaard of Boys fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
1 - 0 was the score after the first half.
Possession in this half belonged to Boys, who controlled the ball 74 percent of the time.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Boys coach let
W. Müntz replace
C. Aver after 46 minutes.
After 46 minutes, the Boys players received new instructions from their manager on how to keep in control of the game.
The Boys coach was visibly pleased with the score so far, but still ordered a few tactical changes 48 minutes into the game.
Boys increased the lead as
Y. van Essen struck to make the score 2 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
55 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
D. Zeppegno broke through, making the score 3 - 0 for Boys.
By now, the players in Boys felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
E. Reboledo could have put Boys up one more, but he fired into the side netting after breaking free on the left after 68 minutes.
After 70 minutes, the defensive line of Flaites created a counterattack through the middle that gave
E. Tellander a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
With 72 minutes gone,
B. Zilvesters suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by Flaites caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring.
After 74 minutes,
J. Riisgaard sprinted between the opposing defenders and squared the ball, but the keeper deflected
Y. van Essen's shot.
Boys had most of the ball, with 75 percent of possession.
The most dominating Boys player was without a doubt
R. Pérez.
K. Skar on the other hand, had a terrible day.
B. Zilvesters performed admirably for Flaites.
霍. 宇鵬 (Yupeng) turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 3 - 0.
