previous 7/10 next 9/10  RBFC 0 - 3 Pelotas (391826896)

Clear skies welcomed the 39122 spectators who had made their way to inferno. Fábio Matos was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Talal El Yazghi and Bo Johansson. RBFC decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Starters: Stensson - Kieni, Seebeck, Wielaert - Košara, Holden, Carmona, Zalayeta, Harley - Pajari, De Meyere.

Pelotas had chosen a strategic 5-3-2 formation. The following players took the field: Göttler - Vidali, Marques, Kietzell, Navas, Méndez - Moraga, Monje, Carcelén - Anagnostakis, Pellegri.

Pressing was the tactic of the day for RBFC. The visiting P. Anagnostakis was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 21 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. 23 minutes in, RBFC's B. Seebeck received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The visitors' S. Pellegri took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 25 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Pelotas. RBFC's V. Košara got himself booked for a foul. 33 minutes into the match, L. Moraga came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. 0 - 2 was the halftime score. Pelotas claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 51 percent.

After 53 minutes, Pelotas's T. Kietzell burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 3. With 55 minutes played, the RBFC coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. D. Freire came on, A. De Meyere had to leave the fray. The bench was restless, and with 61 minutes passed RBFC's coach gave F. Vilardebó the opportunity the player had been hoping for. S. Carmona reluctantly left the field. V. Diano was called on to replace RBFC's B. Seebeck after 62 minutes following a nasty collision. RBFC's V. Diano was shown a yellow card after 77 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Pelotas's E. Marques went down after a savage challenge, but could continue playing after some medical attention. With 84 minutes played, E. Marques of Pelotas fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Pelotas came close to extending their lead as L. Moraga delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 85 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. RBFC enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

The most dominating RBFC player was without a doubt M. Stensson. V. Diano turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Pelotas player was P. Anagnostakis. P. Göttler on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 3.
