18-06-2012 00.30
Due to an all-day shower, 9366 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at
Caneloness Arena.
Claude Ripoche was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Matteo Dudler and
Franz Bräuml.
Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this
Canelones derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents.
Caneloness tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Matusevicius - German, Sambuceti, Almodóvar, Decia - Ballesteros, Di Napoli, Marenco, Macías - Márquez, Elduayen.
Lagomar decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
Starters: Hernández - Do Santos Ramis, Rusomando, Vanzzino, Martel - Pérez, Almada, Herrera, Brachi - Yangosian, Rivero.
Lagomar's
D. Yangosian gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 7 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
J. Márquez of Caneloness received a yellow card after 20 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
With 22 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
L. Martel of Lagomar to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 2.
Caneloness's
J. Márquez cut towards the middle after 24 minutes, receiving a brilliant pass and slicing through the visiting team's central defence, reducing the lead to 1 - 2.
H. German made a superb strike after 35 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner.
H. Elduayen showed the skills that make him a real crowd pleaser as he, after 36 minutes, wove through the guests' entire central defence and put the 2 - 2 equaliser away.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 2.
Caneloness enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.
Caneloness broke through on the left 49 minutes into the game, with
J. Márquez firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 3 - 2 lead.
L. Martel, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass.
Caneloness's
E. Sambuceti left the field after 53 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
A. Sciutto.
Lagomar had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 57 minutes, but
L. Martel's shot from the left sailed high over the bar.
T. Di Napoli increased the lead for Caneloness to 4 - 2, getting a head onto a hooked ball from the right. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he's claiming it!
After 80 minutes, Caneloness's
M. Marenco fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit!
Caneloness claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 55 percent.
The most dominating Caneloness player was without a doubt
J. Márquez.
D. Matusevicius on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important Lagomar player was
C. Herrera.
C. Rusomando was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 4 - 2.
