13-08-2012 01.00
The 37694 spectators at
Gediminas Park were in for an afternoon of sunshine.
Lauri Pyylampi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Jens Büchner and
Hagen Eliskases.
Vytis tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
The following players took the field: Gravalosa - Hauser, Mabey, Tafani, Rajs - Radojčić, Kihlbeck, Huyarramendia, Bilan - Neshev, Vykun.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Zafar FC.
Starters: Meitz - Stephens, Novo, Kloker - Liberatore, Galazzo, Saharinen, Colbert, Daniel - Doran, Kinsey.
Vytis clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
Zafar FC clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle.
The sun seemed to put
J. Daniel in a great mood, and he showed off his technical skills all match long.
They were singing the praises of
O. Radojčić 32 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 1 - 0 to Vytis.
B. Kloker levelled the score for Zafar FC, making it 1 - 1 on a free kick that went in by way of the right post.
X. Gravalosa looked great 42 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
J. Kinsey.
43 minutes in, Vytis's
R. Rajs received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
A badly positioned defensive formation on a free kick after 44 minutes led to Zafar FC's
B. Kloker giving the visitors the lead 1 - 2.
1 - 2 was the halftime score.
Possession in this half belonged to Zafar FC, who controlled the ball 66 percent of the time.
The intense heat forced
G. Mabey into making some errors because he couldn't seem to keep up with the others.
After 54 minutes of play,
K. Bilan evened things up for Vytis with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 2 - 2.
Vytis's counterattacks were lethal to the opposing defence, allowing
G. Mabey to score easily from the right flank for 3 - 2.
Zafar FC were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally.
The visitors almost came back with an equaliser 83 minutes into the match after a good combination down the middle, but when
D. Doran tried to finish the attack, he couldn't deliver the shot hard enough to seriously challenge the keeper.
Usually a powerful player on the field,
B. Colbert looked kind of pale and tired under the hot sun.
Against a lesser team, Zafar FC could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 85 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
It was obvious that team Zafar FC had instructions to attack in the middle instead of on the wings.
The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 86 minutes,
O. Saharinen broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper.
X. Gravalosa made a great block, though.
A quick counter attack by Vytis forced the opponent's defender to give away a freekick.
A. Neshev was allowed to take it quickly by the referee, much to the dismay of the goalkeeper who wasn't prepared. 4 - 2!
Zafar FC claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.
J. Vykun performed admirably for Vytis.
G. Mabey on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The most dominating Zafar FC player was without a doubt
G. Galazzo.
B. Kloker was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 4 - 2.
