previous 3/10 next 5/10  Gobblers 2 - 3 Wolverines (392088741)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Gobblers Arena saw a crowd turnout of 12000. Eryck Duschinger was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Sondre Oma and Jyri Meurman. Gobblers tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Cannon - Fournier, Wilczynski, Kidd, Mays - Meneses, Burkett, Sierra, Nugent - Dale, Banks.

Wolverines decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players took the field: Velazquez - Akers, Pickett, Lange, Page - Irby, Mutt, Pickett, Collazo - Wakefield, Forman.

Gobblers's G. Dale tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders. The guests took the lead 31 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in R. Lange scoring to make it 0 - 1. With 34 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Wolverines resulted in a counterattack that set R. Collazo free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. With 35 minutes played, after a good run down the left, M. Mays went down looking for a penalty after a challenge from the visitors' right fullback, but the referee waved play on, and later warned him for diving. Halftime score was 0 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Gobblers, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.

47 minutes in, and Gobblers were able to score the equalising goal to make it 1 - 1 when B. Fournier picked up a pass coming in from the right and chipped it past the away team's keeper. With 63 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 2 - 1 lead as J. Sierra flipped the ball in after a cross from the right. D. Mutt behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 69 minutes as he gave the ball away to J. Sierra. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. G. Dale unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. After 77 minutes, the visitors tied it up at 2 - 2 when a fantastic pass from the left was finished off by R. Forman. The referee showed Wolverines's R. Pickett the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. One of many good crosses from R. Collazo on the wing was received and skillfully taken care of by R. Wakefield, who scored for Wolverines. 2 - 3 Wolverines had most of the ball, with 52 percent of possession.

Gobblers's best player was G. Banks. On the other hand, G. Dale's play was disheartening. Wolverines's top performer was clearly R. Forman. T. Irby on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 3.
