49629 spectators had come to
Olimpico de Huancabamba this cloudy day.
Frank Bo Bøgeskov was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Sune Persson and
Franz Schmid.
Deportivo decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Starters: Pereda - Ulutürk, Palojoensuu, Ducos - Bedoya, Jayo, Espinosa, Jaico, Torres - Cornejo, Eirola.
Blanquirroja had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Burgos - Wambersie, Uixera, Witt - Carajulca, Gallardo, Segovia, Vega, de Biescas - Taylor, De Loayza.
10 minutes into the game Deportivo managed a counterattack, but
J. Eirola took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper.
After 33 minutes, Blanquirroja raised their score by one when
J. de Biescas's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by
M. De Loayza. 0 - 1.
After 34 minutes, Deportivo's
J. Eirola swiftly ran past
B. Vega and nutmegged the keeper! 1 - 1.
35 minutes into the match, the visiting Blanquirroja made the score 1 - 2 after
L. Taylor executed a perfect free kick.
Deportivo's
R. Cornejo made an attempt at equalising 40 minutes into the match, coming in from the right, but the ball hit the post and the defence easily cleared the rebound.
Deportivo's
J. Espinosa left the field after 42 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
H. Weinmann.
A counterattack by Blanquirroja after 44 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but
L. Taylor, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off.
1 - 2 was the score after the first half.
Possession in this half belonged to Deportivo, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.
J. Segovia received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 56 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 1 - 3. The Blanquirroja fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
After 62 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
J. Segovia to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 1 - 4.
Content with how the game was proceeding, the Blanquirroja coach let
C. Brettoni replace
A. Carajulca after 70 minutes.
71 minutes into the game, Blanquirroja worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch.
The home keeper was stunned 73 minutes into the match when he misjudged the free kick by
L. Taylor and dived in the wrong direction. The visitors increased the lead to 1 - 5.
After this, you could see that the players of Blanquirroja were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
Deportivo's
Ş. Ulutürk found himself alone on the left side 75 minutes into the match and laid down a perfect shot - right into the arms of the keeper!
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Deportivo, with 52 percent of the ball.
Deportivo's top performer was clearly
A. Bedoya.
However,
J. Eirola made a disastrous appearance.
The most dominating Blanquirroja player was without a doubt
L. Taylor.
On the other hand,
C. Brettoni's play was disheartening.
The match ends 1 - 5.
