previous 5/10 next 7/10  SJM 3 - 3 caracasFC (392250270)

Clear skies welcomed the 25148 spectators who had made their way to Andyfield. Leon Triebenbacher was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ratmar Plitz and Frankobert Voßberggrube. SJM had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. They fielded: Gostomski - Homann, Lábas, Suijkerbuijk, Zlatković - Overbeek, Robert, Carolino, Lauritzen, Mostafavi - Martínez.

caracasFC tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Fardos - Arellano, Morales, Arefiev, Váradi - Vega, Rojas, Mparmpetakis, Pinkas - Asseiceira, Arentoft.

The wings were the focus of most of caracasFC's attacks today. The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 after 15 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from J. Carolino, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. E. Vega tied the game at 1 - 1 after 27 minutes, when he converted an incredible pass from the right. The terraces were silenced after 32 minutes when caracasFC's J. Asseiceira put the guests ahead 1 - 2, following an attack on the right. After 34 minutes, SJM sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached P. Zlatković, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 2 - 2. Many thought M. Robert ought to have been awarded a penalty 38 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around J. Fardos after a determined run through the middle. 2 - 2 was the score after the first half. SJM had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.

SJM broke through on the left 50 minutes into the game, with M. Lábas firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 3 - 2 lead. 84 minutes into the match the visitors levelled the score at 3 - 3 as Y. Arefiev struck home from a rebound off the crossbar, following a shot from the right. The visitors could have taken the lead from a free kick after 87 minutes, if it wasn't for the jaw-dropping save by E. Gostomski. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave A. Mostafavi from SJM a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 87 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! K. Váradi was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so caracasFC's S. Puerta had to come off the bench. Possession in this half belonged to SJM, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.

The most dominating SJM player was without a doubt A. Martínez. E. Gostomski turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important caracasFC player was J. Asseiceira. However, Y. Arefiev made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 3 - 3.
