previous 1/4 next 3/4  Vinotinto 6 - 1 Valencia (392255097)

5886 punters turned up at Juventus Vinotinto F Arena, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Dino Delgado was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jørgen Bendix and Pieter Pospiech. Vinotinto tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Cuello - Ovalles, Maza, Orellana, Abreu - Vallejo, Farías, Castellanos, Espinoza - Montenegro, Fonseca.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Valencia. Starters: Quesada - Chataing, Alvarado, De Nisco, Sierra - Peralta, Crespo, Giannoni, Nuñez - Benedetti, Correa.

Vinotinto took the lead 12 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as M. Maza elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. The home side's R. Ovalles curled a free kick home after 13 minutes, putting Vinotinto ahead 2 - 0. A well-executed free kick by R. Ovalles after 22 minutes made it 3 - 0 for Vinotinto. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Vinotinto's G. Fonseca increasing the lead to 4 - 0. The teams went for the halftime break at 4 - 0. Vinotinto had most of the ball, with 73 percent of possession.

Things were deteriorating for the away team as Vinotinto scored another to make it 5 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for G. Fonseca after 48 minutes. The players of Vinotinto now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Vinotinto had to make a substitution after 66 minutes. A. Castellanos limped off the field and was replaced by B. Simanca. The Vinotinto free kick 75 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of B. Espinoza, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 6 - 0! Vinotinto put in a good effort on the right, but C. Vallejo saw his volley fly wide of the mark 80 minutes into the game. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave G. Fonseca from Vinotinto a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 84 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The visitors got one back when D. Correa finished off a pass from the left and scored after 87 minutes. 6 - 1 was the score. 88 minutes in, Valencia's D. Correa received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Vinotinto claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 73 percent.

M. Farías performed admirably for Vinotinto. However, B. Simanca made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Valencia player was without a doubt H. Nuñez. O. Quesada was a disappointment, however. The match ends 6 - 1.
