previous 7/10 next 9/10  Samue11 0 - 10 Tanner (392362451)

11530 fans braved the pouring rain at The Dome. Zoltan Hoffer was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Rombout van Kapel and Basil Marks. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Samue11. The following players had been chosen: Slater - Ling, Cummings, Carter, Mparis - Carlyle, White, Singhania, Platts - Nayak, Whittle.

Tanner decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. The following players took the field: Quỳnh - Zúñiga, Gallen - Farr-Jones, Loix, Csontos, Hunt, Poudineh - Binbinga, Mkapa, Schönerlinde.

I. Mparis showed his inexperience when he failed to anticipate the bounce of a high ball, allowing Tanner's M. Farr-Jones to take advantage and place a shot into the bottom corner of the goal. 0 - 1. The rain made it hard for players like S. Loix to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day. M. Schönerlinde was, after 9 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper C. Slater made the save. M. Schönerlinde received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 27 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Tanner fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Tanner lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. The visitors' S. Mkapa took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 30 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Tanner. The coach of Tanner was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 30 minutes, E. Jack came on for M. Schönerlinde. S. Loix increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 4. Tanner's S. Gallen refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 40 minutes. With 41 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed J. Binbinga of Tanner to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 5. 0 - 5 was the halftime score. Tanner enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 78 percent of possession.

Content with how the game was proceeding, the Tanner coach let D. Kelly replace M. Farr-Jones after 61 minutes. The home crowd was not impressed when S. Gallen came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 63 minutes. Tanner were now up 0 - 6. 70 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 7 as S. Mkapa finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. E. Carter didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain. After 83 minutes, Tanner's S. Mkapa burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 8. That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for S. Mkapa. Tanner increased their lead after 84 minutes when G. Hunt broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 9, much to the home crowd's dismay. Tanner's E. Jack was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 85 minutes. Some fine movement on the left led to a Tanner goal after 86 minutes, making it 0 - 10. D. Kelly was noted down as the scorer. Tanner had most of the ball, with 82 percent of possession.

Most important Samue11 player was J. Ling. E. Carter turned in a dismal performance, however. Tanner's best player was S. Mkapa. V. Zúñiga was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 10.
