Clouds darkened the skies at
Gomel Bowl as 7000 spectators turned up for the match.
Mats Säfér was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Sammuel Geerts and
Paul Janz.
Abutnik started off with a 4-4-2 lineup.
Lineup: Rosenstein - Ral'kevich, Kucherenko, Zebryn, Liameshka - Lyubovich, Chapega, Alexandrenko, Gavrikov - Naskovich, Lutkevich.
LIVERPOOL decided to use a 3-4-3 set up.
The following players took the field: Scalmana - Courtois, Fredriksson, Santner - Forssjö, Skorodumov, van der Kuijlen, Gallaga - Boberski, Flessas, Bari.
It was an obvious ambition of LIVERPOOL to use their ability at attacking on the flanks.
LIVERPOOL had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead.
LIVERPOOL's
J. Bari gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 28 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
After the ball was lifted in from the left,
N. Flessas was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 30 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.
After 31 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
V. Skorodumov to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 2.
After this, you could see that the players of LIVERPOOL were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
After 38 minutes LIVERPOOL's
D. van der Kuijlen contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game.
A lack of experience caused
M. Kucherenko to make a difficult dribble close to dangerous opponent
N. Flessas of LIVERPOOL, who took the opportunity to score making it 0 - 3.
Some fine movement on the left led to a LIVERPOOL goal after 41 minutes, making it 0 - 4.
L. Fredriksson was noted down as the scorer.
0 - 4 was the score after the first half.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by LIVERPOOL, with 71 percent of the ball.
Against a lesser team, LIVERPOOL could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 60 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 61 minutes, LIVERPOOL did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
N. Flessas was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 5.
The visitors'
N. Flessas took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 64 minutes into the match. 0 - 6 for LIVERPOOL.
This third goal completed a hattrick for
N. Flessas.
With 66 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
V. Skorodumov of LIVERPOOL to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 7.
The home crowd was not impressed when
V. Skorodumov came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 78 minutes. LIVERPOOL were now up 0 - 8.
That made three goals for
V. Skorodumov and he was marked down for the hat trick.
Possession in this half belonged to LIVERPOOL, who controlled the ball 77 percent of the time.
K. Chapega performed admirably for Abutnik.
However,
I. Liameshka made a disastrous appearance.
LIVERPOOL's best player was
G. Scalmana.
On the other hand,
C. Courtois's play was disheartening.
The match ends 0 - 8.
