previous 7/10 next 9/10  Amazones 0 - 6 GREENS (392386696)

The crowd of 19024 turning up at Thermodontas Arena today were greeted with some nasty showers of rain. Antonio Trombetti was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mario Sanz and Fernand Laot. Amazones decided to use a 5-2-3 set up. Lineup: Díaz - Gherman, Küçükbilezikçi, Can, Enes, Porcellato - Wedral, Gómez Ulla - Baldissarro, Iancu, Seweryn.

GREENS had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Kariolopoulos - Asvos, Kordakis, Christodoulopoulos, Kargakos - Tanalidis, Eleftheriou, Asproulias, Mpaxevanatos - Dokos, Fotaras.

Amazones clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. GREENS clearly preferred using their ability to attack in the middle. C. Asproulias had a good try after 19 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide. With 20 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Amazones resulted in a counterattack that set K. Seweryn free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. GREENS's K. Eleftheriou left the field after 23 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was T. Mpakatsias. J. Díaz looked great 25 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' A. Fotaras. The visiting A. Fotaras was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 36 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. After 37 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for A. Fotaras who increased GREENS's lead to 0 - 2. After 38 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Amazones found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to inadequate. Halftime score was 0 - 2. GREENS claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 79 percent.

A review of the gameplan helped Amazones get back to a solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again. The rain made it hard for players like K. Küçükbilezikçi to show their technical control of the ball on this soggy day. The visitors' V. Kargakos took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 54 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for GREENS. 64 minutes into the game, Amazones had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to inadequate. L. Kordakis received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 66 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 4. The GREENS fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. Confident in their lead, GREENS's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. Thighs bulging, F. Christodoulopoulos charged past the weaker players, seemingly oblivious to the rain. After 73 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave Y. Dokos a chance to increase the lead for GREENS, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 5. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave F. Christodoulopoulos from GREENS a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 74 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Unfortunately for Amazones, K. Seweryn was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. K. Lago replaced him. After 80 minutes, GREENS's T. Mpaxevanatos burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 6. 84 minutes in, Amazones's D. Porcellato received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by GREENS, with 84 percent of the ball.

The most dominating Amazones player was without a doubt M. Baldissarro. K. Küçükbilezikçi was a disappointment, however. F. Christodoulopoulos performed admirably for GREENS. L. Asvos on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 6.
