previous 4/10 next 6/10  Fernando 2 - 1 Kalataray (392424123)

21412 spectators had come to Santiago del Pino this cloudy day. Folke Grünberg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Niels Haandbæk and Rico van der Niet. Everyone was excited about the upcoming Madrid derby and the crowd was divided evenly. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Fernando. The following players took the field: Golo - Zaļkalns, Saulīte, Vasilev - Burkhart, Hallett, Wilhelm, Cannone, Łozowski - Varona, Manenti.

Kalataray decided to use a 5-4-1 set up. The following players had been chosen: Maruszak - Kirgiakos, Canelas, Berardi, Pacała, Dankwarts - Jansenberger, Úbeda, Florian, Viljat - Ploscaru.

The wings were the focus of most of Fernando's attacks today. The Kalataray free kick 8 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of M. Viljat, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 0 - 1! After 23 minutes, Kalataray's M. Maruszak fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! No matter how hard he tried, S. Varona just couldn't get his shot past the visitors' right side defence after 27 minutes. It was 0 - 1 at the break. Fernando had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

After 58 minutes of play, I. Manenti equalised for Fernando after an elegant attack from the right. Fernando had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead. 69 minutes into the match and the home team took a 2 - 1 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for Fernando was S. Varona. Kalataray needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 72 minutes M. Viljat made way for P. Stroenko. 74 minutes into the game, Kalataray seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to solid. S. Pacała's lack of experience almost gave Fernando a goal after 75 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. Kalataray's N. Canelas got himself booked for a foul. I. Wilhelm of Fernando had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. A. Gallotta came in to finish the match. 88 minutes in, Kalataray appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only solid. Fernando enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 58 percent of possession.

The most dominating Fernando player was without a doubt B. Hallett. However, E. Vasilev made a disastrous appearance. Kalataray's top performer was clearly P. Stroenko. T. Dankwarts on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 1.
