Nunavut 0 - 9 Oilers (392508361)

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Nunavut Park saw a crowd turnout of 7000. Stefan Karlsson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by José María Allard and Abdallah Hajjaji. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Nunavut. Lineup: Robichaud - Lavoie, Killian, Xinos, Taillon - Harvey, Bizier, Marshall, Garnett - Houle, Al-Mahmoud.

Oilers tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination. The following players had been chosen: Damboeck - bin Abdul Hamid, Gasteiger - Parnell, Bosworth, Bančić, Grier, Arroyo - Kristiansson, Colonna, Reid.

1 minutes into the game, Oilers wanted to bring some new energy to their game. A. Reid gave J. Jeffries a quick hug as he left the field. The visiting G. Kristiansson was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 3 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. An amazing free kick flew past the home keeper 25 minutes into the match, putting Oilers ahead 0 - 2. R. Arroyo was the scorer. After 26 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed J. Parnell to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 0 - 3. With 29 minutes played, Oilers put themselves up 0 - 4 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was J. Parnell. The players of Oilers now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. S. Bančić received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 36 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 5. The Oilers fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. Halftime score was 0 - 5. Oilers enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 78 percent of possession.

58 minutes into the game, Oilers worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. G. Kristiansson of Oilers seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 0 - 6 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by R. Arroyo. After 76 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for G. Kristiansson who increased Oilers's lead to 0 - 7. That made three goals for G. Kristiansson and he was marked down for the hat trick. H. bin Abdul Hamid fired a shot from distance after 80 minutes, but the long shot couldn't find the net for Oilers. Some fine movement on the left led to a Oilers goal after 85 minutes, making it 0 - 8. J. Jeffries was noted down as the scorer. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, S. Bančić got himself booked. The manager of Oilers was not happy. After 87 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave J. Jeffries a chance to increase the lead for Oilers, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 9. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Oilers, with 82 percent of the ball.

H. Houle performed admirably for Nunavut. R. Lavoie turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Oilers player was G. Kristiansson. On the other hand, H. Gasteiger's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 9.
