previous 8/10 next 10/10  Walruses 1 - 2 Rangers (392516448)

Dark skies made the crowd of 13000 at The Flying Walruses stadium a little nervous, but the rain held off. Laurent Dubost was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Pentti Jämsä and Ambroży Zimnicki. Walruses decided to use a 4-4-2 set up. The following players had been chosen: Lebrun - Crowley, Álvarez Areces, Marx, Rowland - Simão, Rowan, Spaulding, Mccray - Jackson, Polloshka.

Rangers tactics involved an interesting 5-2-3 combination. Lineup: Godbole - Rosland, Ramirez, Caselles, Kimble, Oneil - Hagelskog, Prince - Rodríguez, Tudor, Alexa.

Rangers clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. Rangers hit back on the counter attack 25 minutes into the game with a free kick. Initially it seemed wasted, hit wide towards the wing. But there was an idea to it - the ball was then crossed towards A. Oneil, who was waiting for it in the box. That's 0 - 1! Don't forget to thank the set pieces coach for that idea! With 40 minutes played, after a good run down the left, T. Marx went down looking for a penalty after a challenge from the visitors' right fullback, but the referee waved play on, and later warned him for diving. The crowd chanted their encouragement as Walruses's U. Polloshka came in from the right after 43 minutes and put the ball in the net to level the score at 1 - 1. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Walruses, with 78 percent of the ball.

Rangers's counterattacks created a good chance for R. Tudor on the right after 74 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar. Walruses's B. Spaulding got himself booked for a foul. After 78 minutes, a well-worked counterattack by Rangers on the right presented an easy opportunity in front of the goal that was duly converted by C. Prince to make it 1 - 2. 80 minutes into the game Rangers managed a counterattack, but S. Rodríguez took a soft shot from the left flank that was easy prey for the alert keeper. Walruses enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 77 percent of possession.

Walruses's top performer was clearly U. Polloshka. L. Rowan turned in a dismal performance, however. Rangers's best player was A. Rosland. M. Caselles was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 2.
