Downtown 1 - 5 Marauders
(392516925)

21-06-2012 01.00
It had rained all day, but 14770 hardy fans still made it out to
Zombie Amphitheater.
Gerhart Handspiel was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
David C. Larsson and
Ignacio Lanchester.
Downtown had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Gatterburg - Yli-Koski, Hunsel, Brugiotti - Leijongren, De Girolamo, Kuranowski, Grabec - Popescu, Birdal, Martins.
Marauders tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination.
They fielded: Vogelsanger - Montero, Sinar - Díaz, Risstål, Mačuh, 叢文 (Congwen) , Orsomando - Lange, Mandelli, Vuorisalo.
Downtown mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
C. Birdal slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today.
Making his way up the middle 18 minutes into the match,
C. Birdal almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert
F. Vogelsanger blocked it to keep the score level.
After some beautiful movement down the left wing,
Š. Grabec scored for Downtown putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 28 minutes.
The game was characterised by rough play and many physical challenges on the wet field, but
V. Popescu showed great heart and had a good game.
The Marauders free kick 38 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
C. Lange, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 1 - 1!
41 minutes into the game,
A. Montero almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
It was 1 - 1 at the break.
Marauders had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.
A. Kuranowski would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
G. Jaszczołt entered the game for Downtown as the match clock showed 55 minutes.
Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 58 minutes into the match, and
A. Risstål wasn't about to let it go by. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 1 - 2 for the visitors.
After 60 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for
C. Lange who increased Marauders's lead to 1 - 3.
By now, the players in Marauders felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
After 79 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed
M. Vuorisalo to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 1 - 4.
After 82 minutes, Marauders's
A. Montero burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 5.
Marauders's
C. Lange was shown a yellow card after 84 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Marauders's
A. Risstål made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 86 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
Marauders enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.
V. Popescu performed admirably for Downtown.
M. Brugiotti was a disappointment, however.
Most important Marauders player was
G. Mandelli.
F. Vogelsanger on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 1 - 5.
