The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 31605 had shown up at
Electronic Stadium for the match.
Menios Parisis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Sergio Pinga and
Mattias Bergander.
Everyone was excited about the upcoming
Antioquia derby and the crowd was divided evenly.
Ingenieros had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Tufeanu - Alfano, Rouy, Laurent, Rodríguez - Iriarte, Cuayal, Tirado, Toro - Arcila, Dyer.
pentagono9 decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
Starters: Mihlabi - Viyachev, Keto, Palacios - Roldán, Nuno, Dragosetti, Larizza, Dillard - Serna, Orbe.
Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Ingenieros.
Ingenieros made it 1 - 0 as
S. Iriarte got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to
N. Laurent who whipped a low drive in off the far post.
O. Orbe made a run for the goal 12 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end.
With the clock showing 13 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Ingenieros resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by
A. Dyer in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high.
15 minutes into the game pentagono9's
A. Serna found a gap in the home side's central defence and scored with a fabulous shot, making it 1 - 1.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
N. Laurent from Ingenieros a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 16 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
Ingenieros mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 33 minutes, but
J. Cuayal was unable to convert from short range.
1 - 1 was the halftime score.
pentagono9 enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 65 percent of possession.
60 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but
O. Orbe, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide.
pentagono9's
A. Serna managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 68 minutes. 1 - 2.
G. Larizza of pentagono9 took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 69 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 1 - 3.
There was concern in the stands when, at the 71 minute mark, Ingenieros's
M. Tirado hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch.
Some fine movement on the left led to a pentagono9 goal after 72 minutes, making it 1 - 4.
A. Roldán was noted down as the scorer.
Ingenieros were awarded a penalty 73 minutes into the match and
N. Arcila fired the ball into the net to make the score 2 - 4.
pentagono9 claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.
Most important Ingenieros player was
N. Laurent.
However,
M. Tirado made a disastrous appearance.
pentagono9's top performer was clearly
G. Larizza.
On the other hand,
L. Dragosetti's play was disheartening.
The match ends 2 - 4.
